ASO tool comparison
A free AppBrain alternative for Google Play ASO
AppBrain is a long-running Android app intelligence site. If you mainly need keyword research, top charts, app analysis and ad checks for Google Play, ASO Lab covers them for free, without an account.
What AppBrain does well
AppBrain has tracked Android apps for many years. Its paid Intelligence plan offers long download and ranking histories, device market share, developer timelines and PDF app reports, and its public app pages can be read without logging in (appbrain.com). It also sells cost-per-install app promotion and an ad SDK for developers.
Where ASO Lab is different
- No account and no keyword limit. AppBrain’s free plan requires a developer account and tracks up to 20 keywords. ASO Lab needs no sign-up.
- Ad Spy. See which Google Play and YouTube ads an app is running, which ones ended, and in which countries.
- Compare apps. Put up to four apps side by side: ratings, installs, rank, release and update dates, monetization and listing length.
- Top charts in more countries. Top Free charts for 140+ Google Play countries, with daily history saved for 47 of them.
When AppBrain is the better choice
Choose AppBrain if you need more than ten years of download history, device market share, PDF reports or its app promotion services. ASO Lab started collecting its own daily history in September 2026, so long-term trends are still building up.

What ASO Lab is
ASO Lab is a free toolkit for Google Play. You can research keywords by country, analyze any app’s listing and ratings, browse Top Free and Top New Free charts, see whether an app runs Google Play and YouTube ads, and compare up to four apps side by side. There is no account to create: open the workspace and start.
It is built for indie developers, small studios and marketers who want quick answers without a monthly subscription. It does not cover the iOS App Store, and its demand and difficulty numbers are internal comparison scores, not measured search volumes.
